We may not always agree that we’ve been fairly assessed and judged and when that painfully impacts how we’re viewed, experienced and judged (our reputation), it hurts, usually badly. Being upset about it is natural yet that focus doesn’t improve the reality.
“So, what now?” is much more helpful as a starting point to address the lack of facts and faulty conclusions that unjustly lead to stress and anxiety and wrongly damage a reputation.
Of course, “So, what now” has to elicit answers that are legal and moral. It’s not a smart decision to react impulsively with illegal or immoral behavior. All that does is compound the current problems and escalate the trouble in your life.
Some people however do just that, regardless of the impulsive, dangerous and let’s say it, stupid behavior that it illustrates. Choose, if you can bring yourself to do so emotionally, not to be this person or group of people.
Instead, bring yourself with poise and self-control to thinking, strategy sessions, planning and response implementation. Why? The odds of overcoming what you’re facing will be much higher, you will be less likely to create additional (and preventable) problems and it will be less challenging to show with character (and consistency) that you are not who you have been judged to be, at least to the people who matter.
How do you this, you may ask? Intelligent question.
Getting skilled at resilient thinking, (soothing) breath work and self talk and being a big-picture thinker that looks wisely (not foolishly) down the road.
Choosing not to catastrophize your future can be difficult at times yet if we can come to reject that type of thinking, the probability of smarter decision analysis — and decision making — is higher.
If doing this on our own seems like too much work, then collaborating with a coach, therapist or reputation specialist might be all that is needed to rewire our thinking for what is most helpful for an expert-level response.
Disproving unwanted myths is possible. Sometimes, it’s easier than you might believe. Other times, it requires a lot of strategic, smart, hard work yet that, done well, can lead to the results and relief that we want and need.
The myth can be overcome. Who we really are can be clearly seen and acknowledged. And that can again be our reputation.
