'I’m Becoming Something I Don’t Want to Be'
A powerfully positive and often difficult to come by realization
“I’m becoming something I don’t want to be.”
Have you ever had the clarity of self awareness and maybe, social awareness, to think that statement about yourself?
Years ago, I confess, I did.
A moment ago, I finished reading an article where someone in it communicated that illumination. It brought back memories. Maybe most people reading this article have never felt they were becoming someone that they didn’t want to be.
I hope there are far more people who have looked inside themselves — their thinking and actions — and feel not only regret, but remorse about their thinking and actions.
Because reality is there are a lot of people in homes or out in public who are are becoming or egregiously, shamefully already have become who they should not be.
By thinking, by knowing that we are not operating in a manner that is humane, kind and generous shows that there is still remnant of admirable character in us. To then act to stop and adjust the problematic or crisis-level thinking and less-than-our-best behavior will not only move us towards improving our interactions, relationships and professional lives, but also our personal experiences and peace.
