Talking to someone who is objective, respectful, skilled and trustworthy can be helpful. That would be my professional recommendation.
I'll add this: Be comforted that most rough or badly damaged reputations can be improved. They really can.
It just takes fully “seeing” and knowing the situation well and having knowledgeable clarity about what needs to be done and should be done to absolutely improve the situation or greatly increase the odds of it happening.
How specifically people perceive and judge you (anyone) is important? What emotions are involved with them? And what are the emotions you're feeling? Believe it or not that's important too because it affects — impacts — how you (anyone) will be willing to respond to improve a roughed up or wrecked reputation.
