Doing Something When Feeling There Is Nothing More That Can Be Done
Limited thinking to problems is a guaranteed failing
We and yes, other people, can too often come to false conclusions or flat-out express falsehoods because we — or they — feel hopeless or don’t want to do something.
Either way, it’s troublesome.
"There’s nothing I can do."
Really? Maybe that’s true some of the time. But… is that always as real as we think, feel and communicate? I know we don’t believe it when others communicate it to us.
There is a smarter, more accurate and honest approach that is helpful, says one leader.
“Shifting the perspective from ‘We can’t do anything’ to ‘What can we do within our power?’ is a great way to assess the resources at hand and put together a solid action plan,” says Bas Frenson, the CEO of Eco MatchMaker.
It’s a reframing and one that is not impossible. It can be done. It just takes learning how to consistently do it and being willing to be patient a while longer, and be sincere and truthful about choices, regardless of our emotions or stubbornness.
“There’s nothing that I can do” can be put through the washer of critical thinking to become “What can we do within our power?”
There may very well be available resources and choices. Deeper thinking, research and creativity can solve so many problems.
This mindset and practice is invaluable, a show of responsibility and what we often need in our lives when there is a sense of overwhelm and hopelessness.
We can be encouraged, reveal a sign of intelligence and strength and be more honest and honorable with ourselves and others.
We also just might solve “impossible” problems.
